Can a woman have two great loves in her life? All it takes is one night for Elizabeth Bennet's life to change forever. Finding herself pregnant with Mr. Darcy's baby, she is forced to make decisions that will have an impact on the rest of not only her life but her family's. Mr. Darcy, who cannot remember the night in question and therefore does not believe she is carrying his child, soldiers on in his pride and arrogance, until it's too late. There is nothing he can do. She is now married and not only is she unattainable, but so is his son.**Warning** There is a hint of what some might feel is sexual violence in the first chapter. It is not graphic, but some readers who are sensitive to this type of scenario should read with caution.

At this time of writing, The Ebook An Unwitting Compromise has garnered 9 customer reviews with rating of 5 out of 5 stars. Not a bad score at all as if you round it off, it’s actually a perfect TEN already. From the looks of that rating, we can say the Ebook is Good TO READ!

“A dream you dream alone is only a dream. A dream you dream together is reality.” –John LennonRating: MA: a mature reader is required: due to the adult themes, erotic dream sequence [or was it?], embarrassing discussions where characters evaluated the compromise. Not everyone saw it the same way. Just as the reviewers on this story. Trigger warning: a sexual non-violent assault/compromise or whatever they want to call it. Sexually graphic [erotic] scenes between a married couple. Etc. You get the picture. Angst Level: high due to stressful situations: anger level was extreme for the characters. At one point… OK, several times, I wanted to tweak that pointy-little-head of Mr. Darcy of Pemberley. What an arrogant sanctimonious prig. He was horrid in his actions and speech. GRRR! Barr wrote that attitude very well. This was the PDHP [Pre-Disastrous-Hunsford-Proposal] Darcy in all his glory. Barr had the reader look closely at the situation from the vantage of his position and status in society. I tried to see his point but, in the end, I simply could not like him. Tissue alert: due to the death of major characters. OMG! I teared up at other scenes, also. I couldn’t help it. They were just beautiful. I loved that part. Source: KU [5-19-21]: Spoiler Alert: This review may contain *** Spoilers ***Let’s get the elephant out of the room first. The tag of rape can vary with the reader. Some people have triggers where assault in ANY form is presented and cannot tolerate reading stories that contain any violence toward women. I did not consider this violent, nonconsensual, perhaps… somewhat, but not violent. There was no fighting or screaming for help… etc. Those who feel they can read this… I hope you do as Elizabeth found such a man to marry and love her. I’d hate for someone to miss that. It was such a beautiful story and I teared up several times. Best quote from the story ‘I know I am cherished and my heart is in your safekeeping.’ Heavy sigh.“Dare to live the life you have dreamed for yourself. Go forward and make your dreams come true.” –Ralph Waldo Emerson*** Spoiler *** I’ve read other JAFF stories with a similar occurrence and although this was a bit graphic… it was not violent nor was it intentional. ***SPOILER*** SERIOUSLY, if you don’t want to know skip this paragraph. <<< Darcy was drunk, thought he was having an erotic dream, imposed himself on a sleeping Elizabeth, and promptly passed out at completion. Elizabeth thought she was having an erotic dream until she was awakened with the pain of penetration. It was then too late. >>> End spoiler>>> Thus, the title of the story ‘An Unwitting Compromise’ by definition [Oxford Languages] unwitting = ‘not aware of the full facts’ … ‘not done on purpose; unintentional’ *** End Spoiler ***“Angry people are not always wise.” –Jane Austen, Pride and PrejudiceDarcy had always considered himself a gentleman until Mr. Bennet presented him with the consequences of an act he didn’t even remember. Darcy blanched with the knowledge of Elizabeth’s ruin. However, his righteous indignation blasted her father against the attack to his character and honor. OMG! He was horrid. Someone [who doesn’t deserve to be named] spouted [bragged, claimed] that he had enjoyed Elizabeth [hint-hint, wink-wink] while in Meryton. That set Darcy off on a rageful rant about the machinations of the lowly Bennet family trying to snag/capture/compromise unwitting rich/wealthy men for their penniless daughters. OMG! I wanted to snap his head off. He convinced Bingley to leave off pursuing Jane Bennet and never return to Netherfield.“Don’t waste your time in anger, regrets, worries, and grudges. Life is too short to be unhappy.” –Roy T. BennettOur story was Elizabeth in survival mode. Over time, her thoughts and feelings toward the man from Derbyshire would wax hot and cold. She was sent to London where Uncle Gardiner, with his many connections, found a wealthy man who needed a wife and an heir to secure his estate… even if the child was not his. OMG! Mr. Henry Talbot will forever be one of my most favorite characters. Oh, how I loved that man. He was so good, kind, and just magnificent. Yeah, perhaps Barr stretched the credibility a bit with his story but if you were going to create a Prince Charming/White Knight, you couldn’t do any better than Mr. Talbot. It wasn’t until Elizabeth became Mrs. Talbot that she learned the full scope of her new husband’s identity. Oh, that was fun.Caroline Bingley was in full ‘Caro-mode’ throughout. She showed her stuff, or lack thereof, on numerous occasions… and… to the wrong people. I love it when she does that. She has such a penchant for failing to recognize her betters and especially the peers she so desperately wants to impress. She just couldn’t help herself and kept digging a hole so deep they would never recover. Little did she know the Bennet family had connections she would have given her eye-teeth to know. La! Caroline, you poor social-climbing fool, open your eyes.“I know that’s what people say—you’ll get over it. I’d say it, too. But I know it’s not true. Oh, you’ll be happy again, never fear. But you won’t forget. Every time you fall in love it will be because something in the [woman] reminds you of [her]. –Betty Smith, A Tree Grows in BrooklynLet’s not forget brother Charles. He finally had to accept the fact he was a spineless coward and had let his sisters and friend ruin his life. Well, they weren’t completely at fault. He had his own part to play in his decisions or lack thereof. After the revelations came forth, he would never be the same. What a burden to carry… lost love forever. Oops! Perhaps that was a spoiler. There was one delightful scene where he took Darcy to task for his hypocrisy. That was amazing and worth reading. There is the unspoken JAFF cardinal rule that ODC has to end up together. I can’t say how D&E resolved their issues but I appreciated the fact that Barr did an excellent job in handling that situation. I can’t say… just read it. I highly recommend this story. Note: I have now read this two times and changed it from 4-stars to 5-stars.
